Free Counseling Resource Guide
Click Here for the Orlando Immunology Center Free Counseling Resource Guide Updated 6/22/16 at 9:05am
Orlando Immunology Center has created this Free Counseling Resource Guide for a quick reference to counseling services. OIC is incredibly saddened by the horrible mass shooting in our own community at Pulse Nightclub. Our OIC family sends love and prayers to the families that and friends that lost someone and to those recovering. We are working hard with our community partners as we navigate through the toughest time in Orlando’s history.
How was this Free Counseling Resource guide created?
We want to thank Two Spirit Health Services Inc and The GLBT Community Center which have lead the massive effort in coordinating FREE grief counseling services for the entire community. We have put that information, along with information from many other community resources, into this Free Counseling Resource Guide. The guide is meant to be a quick reference, one page guide that includes providers that are offering free counseling. The situation is rapidly evolving and we encourage everyone to call and verify services. Please notify us at sgraper@oicorlando.com if there are any corrections.
What is counseling and is it right for me?
Counselors provide a nonjudgmental and safe environment for people to share their struggles. They then offer feedback and tools on how to help overcome those challenges. Many people will be impacted by this traumatic event in a variety of ways. Some people might not be ready for counseling today so these resources will be in place for a long time. Keep them at hand for when you are ready. Speaking with a licenced professional can help you decide if counseling is right for you.
What are some signs that I might need counseling?
After a traumatic event, it is natural to experience stress, anxiety, grief, and worry. The best way to determine if its time for counseling is to speak to a professional about what you specifically are experiencing. According to the CDC, look out for these common signs of distress that could be indicators that it may be time for professional counseling.
- Feelings of shock, numbness, and disbelief
- Changes in energy and activity levels
- Difficulty concentrating
- Changes in appetite
- Sleeping problems
- Nightmares and upsetting thoughts and images
- Feeling anxious or fearful
- Physical reactions, such as headaches, body pains, stomach problems, and skin rashes
- Chronic health problems can get worse
- Changes in use of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs
- Anger or short-temper
What resources does the guide include?
- Crisis Counseling & Emotional Support
- GLBT Focused Counseling Support
- Trauma & Bereavement Support
- Counseling Support for Family, Friends and Others Impacted
- Counseling Support for First Responders and Healthcare Professionals
- Advocacy Services
- Therapy (Individual, Family, Couple, Group)
