OIC Research in Orlando Explores Twice-Yearly HIV Treatment Through DAYBREAK Studies

Orlando Immunology Center (OIC Research) is enrolling participants in DAYBREAK 1 and 2, a Phase 3 clinical research program investigating a complete HIV-1 treatment regimen given every six months. The studies bring an opportunity to explore longer-acting treatment to people living with HIV in Central Florida.

According to Dr. Charlotte-Paige Rolle, OIC’s Director of Research Operations, DAYBREAK is among the research team’s most exciting current enrollment opportunities. The program evaluates a combination of three investigational medicines: lenacapavir, teropavimab, and zinlirvimab.

Exploring a Longer Interval Between Treatments

Effective HIV treatment has changed the lives of people living with HIV. Researchers continue to investigate additional options that could offer greater flexibility while maintaining control of the virus.

DAYBREAK explores whether a complete treatment regimen administered every six months could become another option. The combination remains investigational, and the studies are designed to evaluate its safety and effectiveness. Participation does not guarantee a particular treatment outcome.

For OIC, taking part in this research means helping answer a practical question with potential significance for patients: what could HIV treatment look like with longer intervals between doses?

Research Experience Here in Orlando

OIC Research brings more than 25 years of clinical research experience to its work in Orlando. Its research program spans Phase I through Phase IV trials, with more than 85 completed studies and more than 100 peer-reviewed publications.

That experience connects local participation with the broader work of developing and evaluating treatment options. Investigators, research nurses, and clinical research coordinators each contribute to the process, helping participants understand study requirements and supporting them throughout their involvement.

Dr. Rolle’s latest update reflects active interest in DAYBREAK at OIC. At the time of her October 2026 report, the site had already screened participants for 17 of its 20 allotted slots. Screening is the process of determining whether someone meets a study’s requirements; it does not mean that everyone screened has enrolled.

Learning About Participation

Choosing to explore a clinical trial starts with a conversation. The research team can explain study requirements, screening, scheduled visits, and what participation would involve. Eligibility depends on the specific study criteria.

People interested in DAYBREAK 1 and 2 can contact Jamie or Desiree, the primary Clinical Research Coordinator, to learn about current availability and next steps.
